Improved Digestion for Gut Health

If you have symptoms of bloating, GERD, acid reflux, sluggish memory and/or low energy, allergies, food allergies and sensitivities, problems with your digestive tract could be a driving force underlying your symptoms.

Intestinal Permeability – Leaky Gut

Your gut has a single layer of cells to separate it from your blood stream.

Exposure to toxins, stress, inflammatory foods, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, food allergies, food sensitivities, whiplash injuries, concussions and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) can create chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation breaks down the gut’s single layer barrier system and holes or openings develop in the gut lining. A leaky gut allows bacteria, toxins, and partially digested foods to enter the blood stream. This condition can create many chronic health conditions and symptoms.

At Lynch Chiropractic we have ways to help your body improve intestinal barrier integrity and improve communication between your Central Nervous System and your gut. Some therapy may include:

  • Non-invasive Vagal Nerve Stimulation with Low Level Laser.
  • Vagal Nerve Stimulation through easy, at-home exercises.

  • Gentle percussion to the abdominal region to reduce fascia adhesions and to improve motility.

  • Functional Health Lab Testing to determine which foods are inflammatory to your body.

  • Nutritional Supplementation. First, it could be used to help heal and seal your gut. Then your nutrients could change to aid digestion.

Easy, Supportive Practices for Digestive Health

Digestion is the process of your body breaking down the food you eat into useful, available energy for your cells to use to carry out their functions and for rebuilding your body and for eliminating waste material.
Practical ways to improve your digestion at home include:

  • Staying hydrated. You should drink at least ½ your body weight in water every day and avoid energy drinks, soda, juice and sugared drinks.

  • Do not eat processed food filled with food dyes and preservatives.

  • Do not excessively drink alcohol.

  • Drink very little water at mealtime to avoid diluting your stomach’s digestive acid and enzymes.

  • Chew your food well to support digestion.

  • Take natural digestive enzymes.

  • Take probiotics away from food to support healthy gut flora.

  • Eat plenty of fiber

  • Exercise. It prevents bloating and keeps things moving.

  • Limit sugar and do not eat or drink sugar substitutes.

  • Make sure you supplement Omega 3’s and limit your Omega 6’s.

  • Eat fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, whole fat probiotic yogurt.

Maintaining a healthy gut and good digestive tract is a huge component to maintaining your health. Since up to 80% of our Immune System lives in the gut, a healthy gut supports a strong immune system. It also provides serotonin to help you feel happy.
